By Our Reporter,Likuyani.

A suspected arson incident has been reported at Lumino Comprehensive Primary School in Lumino Village, Soi Location, Likuyani Sub-County, Kakamega County, after unknown persons set fire the school’s ICT room in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to a report recorded at Likuyani Police Station, the incident was reported by the school’s head teacher Stanley Asava.

Preliminary information indicates that a suspected arsonist sneaked into the school compound at night and set the ICT room on fire, completely destroying one computer and a desktop.

The estimated loss from the fire is valued at approximately Sh30,000. Police confirmed that although equipment was damaged, the building itself did not suffer structural damage.

It is alleged that the school night guard noticed flames coming from the ICT room at around midnight and immediately raised an alarm.

Neighbours responded swiftly and managed to put out the fire before it spread further.

The scene was later visited by police officers from Likuyani Police Station, alongside the Sub-County Director of Education, Ms Christine, and members of the school Board of Management (BoM).

Initial assessments have pointed to possible internal wrangles within the institution as a contributing factor to the incident.

Investigators were informed that tensions have been brewing at the school, with both Junior Secondary School (JSS) and primary school teachers reportedly accusing the deputy head teacher, Cherile Achoka, of mishandling staff affairs and being boastful due to alleged connections with senior authorities.
