A Grade 9 student from ACK Saint Paul Academy, Kereita, died on Sunday evening after a tragic accident involving a school bus at Kimende area in Lari Sub-County, Kiambu County.
According to a police incident report recorded at Kijabe Police Station, the accident occurred on at around 6:35pm as the school bus was returning from Gituamba Primary School, where students had attended a soccer competition.
The bus was being driven by Stephen Kamau, who reported the incident.
Police said that upon reaching the school gate, about 200 from Kimende Police Post, the student, identified as Telvin Nderu Mbugua, aged 14, reportedly leaned out through the rear window of the bus while seated at the back.
In the process, he was crushed against a gate pillar as the bus entered the school compound.
The driver immediately stopped the vehicle, and the injured student was rushed to Kimende Orthodox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Officers from Kijabe Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited and processed the scene.
His body was later transferred to Uphome Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over student safety during school transport.
