Police in Witu have rescued a female juvenile from an alleged forced marriage and arrested two suspects following an early morning incident at a lodge within Witu Township.
According to a report filed at Witu Police Station on Monday evening, the incident occurred on February 9, at Kashmir Lodge.
Members of the public alerted police that a juvenile girl had been locked inside a room at the lodge by unknown men and was being assaulted. Officers immediately visited the scene and rescued the victim.
Preliminary investigations established that the juvenile, identified by initials R.M, had recently completed Grade Nine and had secured admission to Kipini Secondary School.
However, her parents allegedly declined to enroll her and instead arranged for her to be married to a man known to her as Abdi.
Police established that on February 8, 2026, at around 4.00 pm, the suspect Abdi, accompanied by another man and elders, visited the girl’s home in Kipini, where she was formally introduced to him by her mother and informed that she was to be married. The group later planned to travel to Witu.
On February 9, 2026, at about 4.00pm, the girl’s father reportedly woke her up and handed her over to three individuals, including two men,one of them being Abdi and a woman known to the victim by the alias “Nimboo.”
The group allegedly transported her to Witu Town, booked a room at Kashmir Lodge, and locked her inside with Abdi.
Police say the suspect attempted to sexually assault the juvenile, but her screams attracted members of the public who intervened, rescued her, and alerted police.
Two suspects, Abdi Bire and Mohammed Abdi, were arrested at the scene and placed in police custody pending arraignment in court. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
