A man wanted by detectives in Tana North for fraud related offences was arrested in the early hours of Monday at the Busia One Stop Border Post while attempting to cross into Uganda.
According to police reports, immigration officers at the border post detected and flagged Ayoub Okecha Owiti at around 3:36 a.m.
The suspect had been placed on a red alert by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Tana North over allegations of obtaining goods by false pretence.
The arrest follows an active case registered under reference IMMS/6/5/2/VOL XIV (TFV) 129 dated December 6, 2024, in which the suspect had been sought by investigators.
Upon detection, immigration officers promptly alerted DCI Busia, whose officers moved in and arrested the suspect before he could exit the country.
He was escorted to Busia Police Station, where he is currently being held pending transfer and further action by DCI Tana North, who are handling the case.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to inter-agency cooperation, particularly at border points, to curb cross-border crime and ensure suspects do not evade justice.
