Police in Nairobi are investigating a brazen daylight robbery in which armed suspects masquerading as traffic police officers abducted a senior company official and stole cash amounting to Sh 1.8 million and USD 1,000 along Muthangari Road, Dagoretti Sub-County today.
According to a report filed at Muthangari Police Station, the incident occurred at around 11:50 a.m.
The report was made by Kabi Akash, an Assistant Operations Manager at an MFI located along Muthangari Drive.
Akash stated that the company’s security guard, Ogutu, alerted him that their Finance Controller, Mahadik Vinod Gopal, an Indian national, had been forcefully taken away by two men dressed in traffic police uniforms.
The suspects allegedly blocked Gopal using a dark brown Mazda CX-5, before approaching his white Toyota Axio.
The attackers reportedly forced the victim out of his vehicle, seized a bag from inside, handcuffed him, and bundled him into their vehicle, leaving his car unattended with the keys in the ignition and his mobile phone inside.
The suspects later abandoned the victim near Galleria Mall before speeding off in an unknown direction.
The victim later returned to his office and proceeded to report the matter to police, confirming that the stolen bag contained Sh 1.8 million and USD 1,000, which he had withdrawn earlier from DTB Bank, Westlands.
Police confirmed that the victim was not injured during the incident.
The case is currently marked Pending Under Investigation (P.U.I), with detectives from DCI Dagoretti leading investigations. Police say further progress will be communicated as inquiries continue.
