Police officers in Nyahururu Sub-County, Laikipia County yesterday arrested two police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Subukia after they were found in possession of narcotics and an illegal firearm.
According to a police report recorded under Nyahururu Police Station, the arrest followed a tip-off from a member of the public.
Acting on the information, officers intercepted a vehicle at Total Petrol Station along the Nyahururu–Nakuru Road.
The suspects were identified as Mutisya Mbithi and Esther Muraguri.
A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of approximately five kilograms of cannabis (bhang).
During the arrest,Constable Mutisya reportedly resisted and drew a Jericho pistol, cocked it, and threatened to shoot the arresting officers.
He was, however, overpowered and disarmed without injury.
Further searches recovered one handcuff, a pocket phone, and a certificate of appointment (C of A) belonging to Mutisya.
The firearm, a Jericho pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, was seized.
The pistol, ammunition, vehicle, cannabis, handcuff, and other recovered items have been detained at Nyahururu Police Station as exhibits pending further investigations.
The matter is being handled by Station Police Nyahururu (STAPOL).
