Suspected Al-Shabaab Operative Arrested in Wajir Town

Security agencies on Wednesday arrested a 37 year old man suspected to be an Al-Shabaab operative on an alleged spy mission in Wajir Town.

According to a police report filed at Wajir Police Station, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Wajir East Sub-County, working jointly with the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), arrested the suspect in the evening.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, is believed to be a member of the Somalia-based terror group Al-Shabaab.

Preliminary investigations established that he operates an electronics shop in Gherile, Somalia, raising suspicion about his presence and activities within Wajir Town.

Security officials indicated that the suspect is believed to have been on a spying mission targeting the area, though further details remain under investigation.

The case has been classified as Persons Under Investigation (PUI) and has been taken over by the ATPU Wajir Detachment for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to strengthening intelligence-led operations to counter terrorism and enhance security within the border county.
