A fatal road traffic accident has left one man dead and a senior DCI officer nursing serious injuries following a violent three-vehicle collision at the Matauro SGR Bridge along the busy Narok–Maai Mahiu Road.
According to a report from Ntulele police station,the tragic incident occurred on Saturday at about 3:00 pm.
The crash involved a Toyota Premio,a Probox and an Isuzu FRR lorry.
Police say the Probox, driven by Kooinet Sempepi Ole Kooinet, was heading from Narok towards Maai Mahiu when the driver briefly alighted from his vehicle at the accident scene.
As he stood beside it, the Toyota Premio, driven by Assistant Superintendent of Police Christopher Ngito attached to DCI Headquarters Anti-Fraud Unit, rammed into the right rear of the Probox, crushing the Probox driver against his own vehicle.
The impact caused the Premio to lose control, veer to the right, and collide head-on with the oncoming Isuzu FRR lorry driven by Wesley Kirui.
Tragically, Kooinet Sempepi Ole Kooinet died on the spot due to the severe impact.
Ngito sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Nairegia Enkare Sub County Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Traffic police officers visited the scene, documented the incident, and took all necessary action.
The three vehicles were towed to the police station pending inspection.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing, and the case remains pending under inquiry.
