Police in Nyeri Central have arrested a 70 year old man who is a watchman in connection with a defilement incident involving a five year old child.
According to a report filed at Nyeri Central Police Station, the incident was reported yesterday (Saturday) at 11:40 p.m. by two members of the public.
The complainants stated that the offence occurred at around 6:00 p.m.
The suspect, identified as Robert Nyanje Otiende, is alleged to have committed the offence while on duty as a watchman at Mountain Top College, located behind the Kenya Revenue Authority offices within Nyeri Township.
Officers from the station’s Gender Based Violence (GBV) desk responded to the report and visited the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was allegedly caught in the act by the victim’s elder sister, who raised alarm leading to his arrest.
The child was escorted to Provincial General Hospital Nyeri, where medical examinations were conducted before discharge.
Police confirmed that the suspect is being held in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, February 16, 2026, as investigations continue.
