Residents of Mukaa,Makueni county were left reeling after a 90 year old woman was gang raped by two men who broke into her house in the dead of night.
The incident has sparked anger and renewed calls for stronger community protection of the elderly.
According to a police report recorded at Kilome Police Station the attack occurred in the early hours of February 17, 2026, at around 1.00am.
The victim was asleep alone in her house when the suspects allegedly forced their way in and assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
She was later rescued and taken to Kilungu Sub-County Hospital, where she was examined and treated.
Medical and police officers have since initiated the required procedures as investigations continue.
Police said two suspects, Timothy Wambua Mwongela, aged 25, and Sila Kingola, aged 41 were identified and arrested following the incident.
The duo was reportedly apprehended by angry members of the public before being rescued by police officers and placed in custody.
They are currently being held as they await arraignment in court.
The case is being handled by detectives from the Station Policing and Criminal Investigations unit at Kilome as authorities work to finalize investigations and prepare the file for prosecution.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from local leaders and residents, who described the attack as inhuman and a gross violation of the dignity and safety of elderly members of society.
Calls have been made for swift justice and enhanced security measures, particularly for vulnerable persons living alone in rural areas of Makueni County.
