Two Suspected Phone Snatchers Lynched by Mob in Kileleshwa

Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into a mob injustice incident that left two suspected mobile phone snatchers dead and three suspects in custody following chaos linked to a political rally convoy in the city.

In a report filed at Kileleshwa Police Station, the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 4:00pm along Kileleshwa Ring Road, Oloitoktok/Olenguruone Road and Cotton/Dennis Pritt roads within Kilimani Sub-County.

Police say a large group of motorcycle riders carrying pillion passengers reportedly streaming from a political rally in Eastlands was moving through the area when several riders allegedly began snatching valuables from members of the public.

In response, members of the public cornered two suspected phone snatchers and subjected them to mob justice, leaving them seriously injured.

Officers from Kilimani, including the OCPD and a response team, were dispatched to the scene after alerts were relayed through the Nairobi Control Room.

The two injured suspects, described as unidentified men aged about 25, were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Their bodies were later transferred to City Mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.

During the operation, police arrested three suspects identified as Jessy Ochieng (25), Clinton Mbithi (21), and Wilson Masese (26).

Two vandalised motorcycles registration numbers KMGS 160C and KMGR 525W—were also recovered.

The case has been booked as pending under investigation, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kilimani taking over further inquiries.
