An 83 year old woman narrowly escaped a suspected attempted rape after an unknown man broke into her house in the early hours of Sunday in Ugunja, Siaya County.
According to a report recorded at Sidindi Police Station, the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. in Kakoth Village, Simenya Sub-Location, Rangala Location.
The victim, identified was asleep in her house when the assailant attacked her and attempted to sexually assault her.
A young grandchild who was in the house managed to escape and alert the victim’s son.
When the son rushed to rescue his mother, he was confronted by the same suspect, who turned violent and stabbed him multiple times, inflicting injuries to the chest, cheek, and head.
The attacker fled the scene immediately after the assault, leaving behind personal items, including buttons and a mobile phone believed to belong to him.
Police officers visited the scene and recovered the items as exhibits to aid investigations.
Both victims were rushed to Simenya Health Centre for initial treatment.
The son was later referred to Ambira Sub-County Hospital for further medical care due to the severity of his injuries.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, which has been booked as serious assault and attempted rape.
The suspect remains at large, and residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the authorities.
