Nyali parliamentary aspirant Elkana Jacob secures release of deceased baby from morgue

Nyali parliamentary aspirant Elkana Jacob has intervened and secured the release of the body of a five day old Muslim girl that had been detained at the Coast General mortuary over an outstanding bill of Sh60,000.

The infant’s body had been held for more than a month.

According to Jacob,the detention of the body had made the family to go through grief and subjecting them to prolonged anguish during an already devastating period.

The family, who reside in Kisimani, Ziwa La Ng’ombe Ward in Nyali Constituency, will now proceed with the burial today in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mzee Karisa Kitsao, the father of the deceased child, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Elkana Jacob Foundation for stepping in at their time of need and ensuring the girl receives a dignified send-off.

Elkana has also called on the County Government of Mombasa to take firm and decisive action.

He urged authorities not only to interdict officers who fail to discharge their duties as required, but also to conduct a comprehensive investigation into systemic shortcomings within the relevant departments.

He emphasized that professionalism, accountability, and compassion must remain at the core of public service, and challenged both the county executive and the county assembly to rise to the occasion and serve the people of Mombasa with greater efficiency, integrity, and humanity.
