Police in Nandi North have arrested a 33 year-old man who sought refuge at the police station to avoid being killed by a mob baying for his blood in connection with the death of his girlfriend.
According to police he allegedly killed the girlfriend following an overnight domestic quarrel at Kaiboi Market.
The suspect, Anthony Kimutai Kemboi, was re arrested by officers at Kabiyet Police Station after he ran to the nearby Kaiboi Police Post seeking refuge while being pursued by members of the public.
According to police, officers they realised that Kemboi was a suspect in a murder case reported earlier within the area.
Preliminary investigations established that the deceased, identified as Magdalene Jerotich Barno, also known as Vivian, aged 41, died at her residence within Kaiboi Market.
Neighbours told police that the couple had been involved in a heated quarrel that lasted throughout the night into the morning.
The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kabiyet, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nandi North, rushed to the scene and processed it.
Police reported that no visible injuries were observed on the body at the scene.
The body was later transferred to Kimbilio Funeral Home for preservation pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
The suspect has since been escorted to Kabiyet Police Station, where he is being held as he awaits arraignment in court.
The case is being handled jointly by the police and DCI officers in Nandi North as investigations continue.
