Khaemba Fires in the Air to Disperse Rival Crowd

A political confrontation between two rival camps in Lutonyi area of Kibingei Location in Kimilili,Bungoma county yesterday turned chaotic after gunshots were fired and several vehicles damaged.

According to a report recorded at Kimilili Police in the evening yesterday forced an MP parliamentary aspirant to fire in the air to disperse a crowd of his rivals who had blocked his motorcade.

The incident was reported by Catherine Naliaka Lubisia, a resident of Kimilili town.

Police officers from the station, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), rushed to the scene at Lutonyi area in Kibingei Location where preliminary investigations established that the incident involved a confrontation between political rival Abdul Aziz Mulama.

Investigators established that Khaemba had been holding a political meeting attended by about 400 supporters at the homestead of one of his agents, Lewis Wanyonyi.

The meeting was reportedly peaceful until the time Khaemba and his entourage were leaving the homestead.

As Khaemba’s motorcade attempted to leave the area, it was allegedly blocked by another motorcade belonging to his rival Mulama, who was accompanied by supporters and security personnel.

The confrontation quickly escalated as a crowd gathered around the vehicles, causing tension between the two groups.

During the commotion, Khaemba reportedly drew his licensed Ceska pistol and fired several rounds of ammunition into the air in an attempt to disperse the crowd of supporters allied to his rival who had blocked his motorcade.

The gunshots caused panic among those present as people fled the scene.

In the chaos, one of the vehicles belonging to Mulama was struck by a bullet on the rear right side.

At the same time, several vehicles and equipment belonging to Khaemba were maliciously damaged by individuals armed with crude weapons.

The damaged property included a white Mitsubishi station wagon (KAV 817Q), a black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (KDS 401B), and a white Ford double-cabin pickup (KCR 050J).

A sound system used during the meeting was also vandalized.

Police confirmed that no serious injuries were reported during the incident.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers visited and processed the scene.

The licensed firearm used in the incident was confiscated from Khaemba together with two remaining rounds of ammunition and will be forwarded to DCI headquarters for ballistic analysis as investigations continue.
