Three police officers who had earlier been reported missing in Isiolo County have been found safe after members of the public rescued them and helped them reach Merti Police Station.
The officers attached to the KOM–GSU Sub-Headquarters Operation Camp resurfaced yesterday after losing their way while on duty.
The officers all Constables were identified as Hilda Hamisi, Kelvin Mutuma and James Mutisya.
Police said the trio got lost on the evening of March 9, 2026 at about 7:30pm while returning to their camp from the KOM-Durte mining site.
The officers reportedly encountered a herd of elephants, forcing them to change direction for safety.
Due to darkness, they were unable to retrace their steps back to the road leading to their camp and wandered through the area overnight.
Members of the public later rescued the officers at Biliqo Marara area, approximately 76 kilometres from Merti Police Station.
The officers eventually made their way to the Merti–Isiolo road where they boarded a public service vehicle registration which transported them to Merti Police Station.
Upon arrival at the station, the officers were given food and water as they were hungry and dehydrated after the long ordeal.
Police confirmed that the officers did not sustain any serious injuries, apart from minor soft tissue strain believed to have been caused by walking long distances.
Police have since contacted their command at the KOM–GSU Sub-Headquarters Operation Camp and arrangements had been made for their collection yesterday.
