Police in Kathiani,Machakos County have arrested eleven men suspected of being part of a gang involved in mugging and robbery incidents along the Kenol–Kangundo Road.
According to a police report filed at Kathiani Police Station,the arrests were made on Friday night during a joint security operation conducted at around 9:30 p.m. at Kwa Ngondi Market.
The operation was launched following numerous complaints from members of the public who reported a surge in mugging and robbery attacks targeting pedestrians both during the day and at night along the busy road.
The crackdown involved officers from the National Police Service (NPS) working under the coordination of the Sub-County Administration Police Commander (SCAPC), the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (D/OCS), and the area chief.
During the operation, police rounded the suspects believed to be part of a group of idle youths suspected of carrying out the criminal activities.

Dennis Kioko Muema, 29
Nicolas Mutuku Mutunga, 34
Kelvin Mutuku, 28
Brian Muindi David, 28
Martin Sikuku Lei, 29 and
Morris Mutiso Kivoi, 42.
Police said the suspects are currently being held in custody as detectives conduct further interrogation and investigations to establish their involvement in the reported robbery and mugging incidents in the area.
Authorities have also intensified security patrols and surveillance along the Kenol–Kangundo Road and surrounding areas to curb further criminal activities and enhance the safety of residents and motorists.
Residents have been urged to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
