Detectives in Mandera County have arrested two suspects linked to a robbery with violence incident in which a man was lured, assaulted, and forced to pay a Sh1 million ransom as he pursued his debt of Sh1.4Million.
According to police reports from Mandera Police Station, the victim, Abdirahman Dakana Abdikarim, was allegedly tricked by a man known to him into traveling to Busley area to collect a debt of Sh 1,421,500.
However, upon arrival at a remote location about nine kilometres from Mandera town, the situation took a violent turn.
The suspect, identified as Abdirahman Mohamed Noor, was reportedly in the company of two accomplices, one of whom has been identified as Abdifatahi Ibrahim Adam.
The trio, armed with a knife and a rope, allegedly attacked the complainant, tied him up, and demanded a ransom of Sh 1 million.
Fearing for his life, the victim managed to raise the money through friends and transferred the amount via M-Pesa to the suspects.
The attackers also stole his Samsung mobile phone valued at Sh 14,000 before releasing him hours later.
Swift action by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mandera East, working closely with officers in Rhamu, led to the arrest of Noor in Rhamu Township.
He was reportedly found in possession of a black Samsung phone believed to belong to the victim.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of a second suspect Adam, in Busley area.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the third suspect, who remains at large but has been positively identified by the victim.
The arrested suspects are currently being held at Mandera Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
