A suspected theft incident aboard an EgyptAir flight arriving at Nairobi’s JKIA was resolved peacefully after two foreign passengers agreed to compensate a Canadian traveler who claimed his money had been stolen during the flight.
According to a report filed with police at the JKIA a few minutes noon, the incident occurred today morning aboard EgyptAir Flight which landed at JKIA at around 5:00 a.m.
The complainant, identified as a Canadian national Tekle Dagim aged 41, alleged that USD 1,400 had been stolen from his carry-on luggage which had been placed in the aircraft cabin during the journey.
The aircraft captain reportedly alerted airport security ahead of landing, prompting officers and a multi-agency security team to meet the plane upon arrival.
Investigators were informed that a Chinese passenger had allegedly been seen touching the complainant’s bag during the flight.
The passengers involved were escorted to Terminal 1E where a thorough search was conducted.
Two Chinese nationals identified as Zhang Bo and Jiang Wei were searched and found in possession of different foreign currencies.
Following further questioning, the two reportedly agreed to reimburse the complainant the missing USD 1,400 by sharing the amount equally.
Airport authorities subsequently allowed the passengers to enter the country after the matter was resolved amicably.
Police confirmed that no further incident or disturbance was reported during the entire exercise.
