A 69 year old man has been arrested in Nyamira County after police recovered a suspected illegal firearm from his home during a security operation prompted by a public tip-off.
The suspect, identified as Frederick Nyaayo Momanyi, was arrested on Tuesday at Magogo Village in Nyangena Sub-location, Omogonchoro Location.
According to police, officers from Sengera Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the DCI Manga and the area chief, searched the suspect’s house after receiving information that he was in possession of a firearm.
During the search, officers recovered a Tokarev pistol without a serial number and an empty magazine.
The items were reportedly wrapped in a white polythene bag and hidden inside a cupboard.
The suspect was taken to Sengera Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment on charges of possessing a firearm without a valid licence.
Police said the recovered pistol has been secured as an exhibit and will be forwarded to the Ballistics Department for forensic examination as investigations continue.
