A group of youths dressed in ODM attire allegedly attacked and invaded a tourist hotel in Homa Bay on Saturday evening, destroying property and stealing items of unknown value on a day that preceded a Linda Mwananch rally in the town.
The incident occurred at around 8pm at Homa Bay Tourist Hotel, located near Homa Bay Pier along the Lake Victoria area.
As of Sunday morning section of roads leading to the town had been barricaded with stones with our crew reporting that youths could be seen in groups walking while carrying sticks and singing songs against Lind Mwananchi.
According to a police report, the Saturday incident was reported by the hotel manager, Robert Odongo, who told police that the youths descended on the premises and vandalised the establishment before making away with various items.
Police officers, accompanied by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel, rushed to the hotel after receiving the report.
However, the suspects had already fled the scene using motorcycles by the time officers arrived.
Upon gaining access to the premises, police found hotel stationery, accessories and furniture destroyed and stolen.
The total value of the damaged and missing
property had not been established by the time of reporting.
Investigations into the incident have commenced, with the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), Homa Bay, handling the case.
Police said further investigations and a progress report would follow as efforts to identify and apprehend those behind the attack continue.
