A man accused of impersonating the DCIO of Central police station,Nairobi has been arrested after allegedly luring a Nairobi PSV company director to Central Police Station using a fake police summons.
The suspect, identified as Richard Nyageso Kebaso, was arrested on Wednesday after posing as the DCIO Central and calling Ramadhan Rashid, the director of Eight Ways Investment Limited and Light Ways Investors Limited, both PSV operators based in Kibera.
According to police, Kebaso telephoned the complainant and instructed him to report to the DCIO’s office at Central Police Station over a motor vehicle that had previously been parked at the company’s designated pick up and drop off area.
When Rashid arrived at the station and informed detectives that he had honoured the summons, officers established that no officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Central had contacted him.
They also confirmed that the mobile number used did not belong to any officer stationed at the office.
To verify the report, detectives called the same number.
The caller again claimed to be the DCIO Central, saying he was attending a meeting and would shortly report to the station.
Moments later, the suspect arrived at Central Police Station and called the complainant’s phone, prompting Rashid to identify him as the person who had falsely represented himself as the DCIO.
Police immediately arrested Kebaso and placed him in custody.
He is expected to be arraigned in court on charges of personation as investigations by DCI Central continue.
