Family Exhumes Wrongly Buried Body in Makueni After Mortuary Mix-Up

By Our Correspondent,Kibwezi.

A family in Kibwezi, Makueni County, has finally laid their loved one to rest after an exhumation exercise corrected a burial mix-up caused by an identification error at a local mortuary.

The incident dates back to July 18 when the family of 95 year old Andrew Mutua Kasimu mistakenly buried the body of another deceased person instead of their relative following an identification error at Kibwezi Funeral Home.

On Tuesday, August 4, officers from the DCI Kibwezi Police Station, the OCS, public health officials, mortuary attendants from Kibwezi Funeral Home, and representatives of the affected families supervised the exhumation at Nzembete Village in Mukangu Sub-location, Masongaleni Location.

During the exercise, the remains of Andrew Mutua Kasimu were exhumed and returned to his family before being taken back to Kibwezi Mortuary.

The family of 96-year-old Tom Nzioka then collected the correct body from the mortuary and proceeded to bury him at the same gravesite.

Police said the exhumation and reburial were conducted peacefully without any incident, and no further police action was required.
