Government urged to intervene in Huruma Muslim land dispute

By Johnson Njenga,Milimani Court.

The Government has been urged to swiftly intervene in a land ownership dispute pitting the Huruma Muslim Association against the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM).

Lawyer Danston Omari, representing the Huruma Muslim Association, made the appeal after the mention of a case in which six local Muslims have been charged with forceful entry onto a six acre parcel of land at the centre of the dispute.

The parcel hosts the Huruma Mosque and an academy.

According to the association, it was allocated to the local Muslim community in 1972 by the then Nairobi Mayor Margaret Kenyatta.

Omari urged the Government to intervene and help resolve the ownership dispute before it escalates further, saying the matter has the potential to cause tension within the local Muslim community.

The six accused persons are facing charges relating to their alleged forceful entry onto the disputed property.

The case will be mentioned at the Milimani Law Courts on November 30, 2026.
