KPA Dock Workers Union Elect New Officials

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Dock Workers Union has concluded its general elections, ushering in a new team of officials following a voting exercise conducted across 13 polling stations within the Port of Mombasa.

The elections, held on Thursday, saw Abukar Mohammed elected as the union’s General Secretary, while Matiku Gideon secured the position of Assistant General Secretary.

Gunda Kaneno was elected National Chairman, while Abdala Radani Ali took the position of Assistant Vice Chairman.

Idd Yusuf Mchangamwe was elected Treasurer unopposed.

According to police, the electoral process was concluded shortly after midnight, at around 12:10 a.m. on Friday, with no security incidents reported during voting, counting and tallying.

Police described the exercise as orderly and peaceful, crediting all stakeholders for maintaining calm throughout the elections.

The newly elected officials are expected to steer the affairs of one of Kenya’s influential labour unions, which represents dock workers at the Port of Mombasa.
