Authorities in Kilifi North have moved swiftly to defuse tensions following a highway blockage protest that disrupted traffic along the busy Mombasa–Malindi Highway near Pwani University.

According to a follow-up report from Kilifi Police Station, Sokoni Ward MCA Ray Dogo was summoned for a consultative meeting by the Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Stanley Tonui and Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Moses Lelekong.

The meeting aimed to address grievances that led to the demonstrations witnessed a day earlier.

Dogo attended the session alongside leaders from the Kilifi Probox Taxi Operators, a group believed to be central to the dispute.

During the deliberations, stakeholders agreed on key resolutions to restore order and prevent further disruption.

Among the resolutions reached was a firm commitment that there will be no further interference with traffic along the highway.

Taxi operators were urged to maintain peace within the affected areas and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Authorities also emphasized the need for continuous dialogue involving all relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution.

Following the initial meeting, participants proceeded to the office of Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Samwel Muinde Mutisya for further engagements at the Sub-County Intelligence and Security Committee (SCISC) level.

The forum directed that the status quo be maintained as broader consultations continue.

Key stakeholders expected to be involved in subsequent discussions include political leaders, county government representatives, Pwani University management, national government officials, and taxi operators.

Members of the public were urged to maintain peace and order, while political leaders were cautioned against inciting violence.
