A police officer who had been reported missing has been found dead in Bonje Shopping Centre in Kilifi County, bringing to an end a search that had been launched after his disappearance.
Police said the body of Police Constable Jillo Maalim Lucas, service was positively identified by his colleagues and his brother, Karhayu Jillo, at the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
According to a follow-up report from Mikindani Police Station in Mombasa County, the body was initially recovered as that of an unidentified male adult and taken to the mortuary after the incident was reported at Mazeras Police Station.
A team comprising officers from Mikindani Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Jomvu later visited both the mortuary and the scene at Bonje Shopping Centre.
Investigators established that the officer’s body had been found wedged between two isolated shipping containers on the outskirts of the shopping centre.
Family members were subsequently informed of the tragic development.
The circumstances surrounding the officer’s death remain under investigation by detectives from DCI Rabai.
