Monaco FC leads Kangundo charge as Wavinya Cup qualifiers emerge

Monaco FC produced one of the weekend’s most impressive performances as the fourth edition of the Governor Wavinya Cup entered its second week, with teams from Kangundo and Mitaboni booking places in the Sub-County stage.

In Kangundo East, Monaco FC defeated Moran FC 3-0 in the men’s final, while Young Arsenal Starlets edged Moran Starlets 1-0 to secure the ladies’ ticket.

Kangundo Central also registered a double qualification, with Kangundo FC beating Muisuni FC 2-0 in the men’s final and Kangundo Starlets defeating Muisuni Queens by a similar margin.

In Kangundo North, Misyani FC overcame Kikambuani FC 2-0, while Kawauni Starlets beat Kikambuani Starlets 2-0 in the ladies’ final.

Mukunike FC edged Kawethei FC 1-0 to qualify from Kangundo West, while Kakuyuni Starlets topped the ladies’ Round Robin competition.

Mitaboni Ward produced two penalty shootouts, with Mitaboni Heroes FC beating Kakilya FC 5-4 on penalties and Muonyweni Starlets defeating Miumbuni Queens 4-3.

The latest results have added another batch of teams to the Sub-County stage, where competition is expected to intensify as the Governor Wavinya Cup moves closer to its decisive phase.

The tournament now shifts to the next cluster of five wards, with more teams set to battle for qualification and a chance to keep their title ambitions alive.

The competition continues to provide a platform for grassroots football talent, with teams across the county showcasing determination and skill in their pursuit of honours.
