Mumias Sugar 2021 Limited Operations and Administration Manager Eng. Stephen Kihumba has assured sugarcane farmers that the company will offer free field extension services to help them improve cane productivity.
Eng. Kihumba warned that no officer should demand payment for extension services, saying those found culpable will face stern disciplinary action.
“As a company, our work is to ensure that farmers are guided properly so as to get better yields by advising them on quality seed cane and fertilizer. These services are free. No farmer should be asked to pay,” he said.
He was speaking at the home of slain Fafi OCPD Stephen Ekirapa in Kamanyunya Village, Teso South, Busia County, where he had gone to condole with the family.
Eng. Kihumba also urged residents of Busia County to take cane farming seriously as a source of livelihood and economic empowerment.
Ekirapa died last week together with his driver David Rotich after their vehicle ran over a suspected landmine along the Saretho-Dadaab road in Garissa County.
He will be laid to rest next week on the 24th in his Kamarinyan’g home.
