The Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) and the National Police Service (NPS) have joined forces to tackle a surge in road traffic accidents across the capital, designating Adams arcade as a top priority blackspot following 7 fatalities and 21 serious accidents.
The joint effort was solidified during the 3rd Joint Coordination Committee meeting at USIU-Africa for the initiative “Strengthening of safe system approach to road traffic accidents in Kenya,” supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“We have identified the following high risk locations;
Adams arcade (Highest Priority),
Valley road (Near CITAM footbridge),
Prestige shopping mall,
Ole odume road,
Jamhuri Junctions and
Railway Golf club entrance.” said Charles Kerich, Nairobi County Executive, Mobility and Works.
“A trial traffic enforcement operation will be launched immediately in Kilimani area before expanding to targeted blackspots across the city.”added Kerich.
The County Executive urged motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic laws as multi-agency enforcement kicked in.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat and JICA representatives.
