A one year and eight month old girl was found dead while an 18 year old woman is receiving treatment after she was splashed with acid at Rurii area in Githurai 44, Nairobi.
According to a police report, officers from Githurai 44 Police Post responded after receiving a distress call from a member of the public reporting that a young woman had been attacked with acid.
The victim, identified as Angela Kinya Mutwiri, 18, had already been rushed to St. John’s Hospital by the time officers arrived. While receiving treatment, she informed investigators that a child had been strangled to death in the same house by the child’s mother, who is reportedly her sister-in-law.
Police returned to the residence, House No. 18 on the first floor of “A” Apartment in the Rurii area, where they found the body of the child, identified as Tiana Wira Kirimi, aged one year and eight months.
The body was discovered lying on the floor, covered with a duvet in a corner of the house.
Crime scene investigators from Kasarani documented the scene before the body was moved to the Kenyatta University Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Angela sustained acid burns during the incident and remains admitted to St. John’s Hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
The motive behind the incident has not yet been established.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kasarani have launched investigations.
