A daring theft incident is under investigation in Ruiru, Kiambu County, after unknown suspects broke into a parked vehicle of the General Manager of Rapid Cash Ventures Limited and made away with Sh1.2 million in cash.
According to police, the incident was reported at Gatongora Police Station yesterday by Robinson Kihara, the GM of microfinance institution located in the Kihunguro area.
Kihara told investigators that he had withdrawn the money from KCB Bank Kamakis branch at around 12:45 p.m. and placed the cash in an envelope before storing it in the boot of his Toyota Mark X.
He then drove to his office premises at Monrovia House, where he parked the vehicle in the basement parking area.
Police established that after arriving, Kihara briefly left the vehicle and proceeded to his office.
Upon returning, he discovered that unknown individuals had tampered with the vehicle’s door locks, gained access to the boot, and stolen the cash.
Officers from Gatongora Police Station visited the scene and confirmed signs of interference with the vehicle’s locking system.
The building where the incident occurred is fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras, but efforts to review the footage were initially hampered after the security officer responsible for accessing the system was unavailable.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Ruiru have taken over the case and launched investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
