Suspect Arrested as AK-47 Rifle and 100 Rounds of Ammunition is Recovered in Tana River

A multi agency security operation in Bangale, Tana River County, has led to the recovery of an illegal AK-47 rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition, with a suspect arrested and expected to face firearms related charges.

The operation was conducted on Friday morning in Malkamansa Village, Saka Location.

The team comprised officers from the National Police Service (NPS), the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) and the Administration Police.

Police said the team recovered an AK-47 rifle with a defaced serial number, one magazine loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition and an additional 80 rounds of the same calibre from the suspect, identified as Mohamed Liban (28).

The suspect was arrested and is being held at Madogo Police Station pending his arraignment in court on charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition without a valid licence.

The recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured in the station armoury and will be forwarded for ballistic examination to establish whether the weapon has been used in the commission of any previous crimes.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
