Police in Uganda’s Kasangati Division are investigating the alleged murder of two year old Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries, whose body was recovered from a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza.

The child was reported missing by her mother, Atukwatse Lillian, on October 27 after she disappeared while playing with neighbouring children.

The following morning, a ransom note demanding UGX 10 million was discovered at the mother’s gate, prompting police investigations.

Two suspects, identified as Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist, and Amusuguti Florence, were arrested in connection with the incident.

According to preliminary investigations, Muhumuza reportedly confessed to the crime and led detectives to the location where the child’s body was recovered.

He also allegedly identified Florence as his accomplice.

Police recovered a mobile phone from Muhumuza containing a line said to have been used to demand the ransom.

Investigators further established that Muhumuza was known to the child and her mother, having previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist.

His residence was separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.

The child’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.

Police are pursuing further inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
