A 60 year old woman has died after a swarm of bees attacked approximately 50 people collecting lef tover maize at the Katuke Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farm in Kwanza,Trans Nzoia County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at the farm, where villagers had gone to collect maize stalks and leftover grains after harvesting.
Police investigations indicate that the bees, reportedly hiding among the maize stalks, attacked the group, forcing the victims to flee for safety.
The deceased, identified as Jesca Mongina Moenga, collapsed after being overwhelmed by bee stings and died at the scene.
She was rushed to Powerplus Clinic, where she was pronounced dead.
Her body was later transferred to Kijana Wamalwa Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem examination.
More than 10 other victims were treated and discharged in stable condition at Twiga Health Centre.
Their identities had not been established by the time of reporting.
