Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, have arrested 23 suspected members of criminal gangs following a security operation that they say disrupted an alleged plan to attack and burn Dagoreti Police Post during the upcoming Gen Z anniversary activities.

According to police, the operation, dubbed “Fagia,” was extended to the Dagoreti Police Post area on the night of June 18 after intelligence reports indicated that a group of suspected goons had gathered at Dagoreti Market to discuss plans linked to the forthcoming commemorations.
Officers from Kikuyu Police Station, led by the OCS and his Deputy mounted an ambush and arrested 14 suspects during the operation.

Police said one of the suspects allegedly attempted to stab an officer with a kitchen knife while resisting arrest.
The suspect was subdued after an officer fired into the air as a warning.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
A kitchen knife was recovered and retained as an exhibit.
Security officers later extended the crackdown to the Makutano area within Kikuyu Township, where they arrested nine additional suspects allegedly involved in terrorizing boda boda operators and pedestrians crossing the railway line that separates Kikuyu and Kabete sub-counties.

The arrests bring the total number of suspects detained during the operation to 23.
All were booked at Kikuyu Police Station and are expected to face charges including preparation to commit a felony and other related offences.
