Kang’ata’s absence from top Governors List Sparks tough Questions

By Our Reporter,Nairobi.

A section of Kenyans have raised hard questions following the omission of Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata from the list of top performing county chiefs in the latest Politrack Africa StarLeaders Awards 2026.

The concerns come amid growing perception among his supporters that Kang’ata has been one of the most hardworking governors, with visible development initiatives and active public engagement in Murang’a County.

Many now wonder how such efforts failed to translate into recognition at a national level.

According to the poll, Simba Arati of Kisii County emerged as the best performing governor, taking the top position. The second slot was shared between Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga County and Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos County.

In third place, the ranking featured a tie between Ahmed Abdullahi of Wajir County and Patrick Ole Ntutu of Narok County.

Critics of the ranking have questioned the criteria used, with some arguing that such polls may not fully capture on the ground impact, while others suggest that public perception, visibility, and political influence often play a significant role in shaping the outcomes.

The debate has since ignited wider discussion on how performance among governors should be measured, with calls for more transparent, data driven evaluation systems that reflect service delivery, development outcomes, and citizen satisfaction.
