Mob Kills Man Accused of Cattle Theft, Burns Family Home in Kisumu

A man aged 37 was lynched by an irate mob and his family’s house set ablaze in a suspected case of mob justice in Kisumu East.

The deceased, identified as Geoffrey Odhiambo Kola, was reportedly having supper with his wife, Nancy Akinyi Odhiambo, at their home in Kamrongo Village, Landi Matope, on Monday evening when a group of people stormed the house.

According to the police report, the mob forcibly dragged Geoffrey from the house before assaulting him to death, accusing him of being a cattle rustler.

The attackers then torched the family’s two roomed mud house, reducing it to ashes.

Police officers from Chiga Police Station visited and processed the scene before moving the body to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post mortem examination.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu East have launched investigations into the incident as they pursue those responsible for the killing and destruction of property.
