Man killed for “stealing Chama money” in Kimilili

A man has been killed following a brutal assault in Kimilili,Bungoma County after being accused of stealing funds “chama money” belonging to a local merry go round group.

According to a police report filed at Kamukuywa Police Station,the incident was reported yesterday by George Mukwana, a resident of Iyembe Village in Kamusinde Location.

The deceased was identified as Derrick Mukwana who was attacked on April 1, 2026, by two men Ronald Namukosi and Edward Timoteo over claims that he had stolen group savings on March 30, 2026.

According to the statement,the money was reportedly under the custody of his mother, Pamela Mukwana.

Police say Derrick had allegedly disappeared with the funds to Kamusinga Village within the Nasusi area, where he was later traced by the suspects.

Upon confrontation, the two allegedly assaulted him, inflicting serious injuries.

He was rushed to Kimilili Sub county Hospital for treatment but succumbed to the injuries a day later, on April 2, 2026.

His body is currently preserved at the same facility’s mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police officers have visited the scene and confirmed the incident, launching a manhunt for the two suspects who remain at large.
