Police in Ugunja,Siaya county have launched investigations following a night raid by suspected vandals targeting critical power infrastructure at the KETRACO Rangala Substation in Sidindi.
In a police report logged at Sidindi Police Station today,the incident is reported to have occurred at around 3.00am when a group of about ten men, armed with crude weapons, stormed the facility.
The matter was reported by Joseph Wesonga Luta, a security guard at the substation.
He alerted police that the gang forcefully gained entry by breaching the perimeter fence.
Upon visiting the scene, police officers confirmed that the attackers had vandalized and stolen copper earth wires from atleast 40 different points within the substation.
The stolen materials are estimated to be worth Sh 50,000.
Police said in their report that they had intensified their efforts to track down the suspects and recover the stolen items.
