Police chase ends in crash as DCI police rams building

A police operation in Busia county took a dramatic turn on today morning after a police vehicle crashed into a building while pursuing suspected criminals along the Busia–Malaba Road.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. in the Alupe area and was later recorded at the station.

The vehicle involved, a Toyota Land Cruiser attached to DCI Teso South and was being driven by Police Constable Daniel Kiprono Kurei under the command of Chief Inspector Fredrick Baraza, the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Teso South.

The officers were responding to a call and actively pursuing suspects believed to be fleeing the scene.

During the chase, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road before crashing into a nearby building.

The impact left the vehicle extensively damaged, particularly at the bonnet, front bumper, and left headlight.

Chief Inspector Baraza sustained a slight injury to the forehead, while the driver escaped unharmed.

The injured officer was rushed to Brimixa Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
