A police officer drawn from VIP protection unit and attached to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is recovering after being seriously injured during a violent robbery incident in Banana, Kiambaa Kiambu County.
According to a report filed at Karuri Police Station, the officer, identified as Brian Kimeu Mbuvi, was attacked on the night of April 26, 2026, at around 11:30 p.m. while heading to his residence in the Banana area.
He was riding on a motorcycle when an unknown assailant struck him from behind with a stick near Guango stage in Muchatha.
The attacker reportedly sped off towards Rubis stage, prompting the officer and the motorcycle rider to pursue him.
Upon catching up, a confrontation ensued, attracting a group of boda boda riders.
The situation quickly escalated as the crowd turned on the officer.
In an attempt to disperse the attackers, the officer fired a warning shot in the air.
However, he was overpowered by the group and sustained serious injuries to his hands and head.
During the attack, he was robbed of his official firearm a Beretta pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition as well as his mobile phone.
The assailants fled the scene, and efforts to trace them were unsuccessful.
The injured officer was rushed to MP Shah Hospital, where he was admitted and treated before being discharged on April 28, 2026.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident, with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kiambaa leading efforts to recover the stolen firearm and apprehend those responsible.
