A family in Mandera county is crying for justice after their new born baby died under unclear circumstances moments after delivery.
Ibrahim Mohamed Ali and his wife, Nasteha Ahmed Ibrahim, are crying for justice after losing their newborn baby due to what they described as gross negligence at Libehiya Health Center.
The incident happened on April 17, 2026.
Ali said he rushed his expectant wife to the facility hoping she would receive urgent medical attention, only to find the health center locked and unattended.
In desperation, he repeatedly called the nurse on duty, Muhumed Ugas Dakane, for over three to four hours, but his calls went unanswered.
“I had earlier alerted Dakane of my situation and he had promised to be at the facility. I was shocked not to find him there,” he said.
With no help available and his wife in severe labor pains, she was forced to deliver inside a car just outside a government health facility with the help of some women.
Ali claimed the nurse in charge arrived late only to observe the mother and baby and without offering any medical assistant, discharged them.
“He only peeped at my wife and baby in the car. He did not even allow us into the facility to help with cleaning the new born. He asked us to return home,” Ali said.
According to Ali, his experience was not just negligence but a complete failure of responsibility and humanity.
Ali has since reported the case to Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDU) and Nursing Council of Kenya.
Mandera County government declined to commend on the same despite reaching out to CEC for Health Mumtaza Musa.
