By Pastor Vincent Roy Agoya.
After the miraculous fall of Jericho, Joshua issued a warning that seemed extreme. God wanted Jericho to remain a ruin,a permanent monument to His power and a reminder of the consequences of defying Him.
This oath wasn’t just about architecture; it was about the spiritual danger of trying to “rebuild” what God has clearly judged or instructed us to leave behind.
Centuries later (in 1 Kings 16:34), a man named Hiel tried to rebuild it, and the prophecy came true exactly as stated. It serves as a sobering reminder that God’s words aren’t empty threats or suggestions. When He closes a door or calls something “finished,” we find only heartache in trying to resurrect it for our own glory.
Is there something in your life—a habit, a toxic situation, or a past “Jericho”—that God has brought down, but you are tempted to rebuild?
Today, make the choice to leave the ruins behind and walk forward into the new territory God has for you.
