A man was killed and his house set on fire by an angry mob in Gitogothi village, Limuru following allegations of defilement involving a minor who is also a deaf.
According to police at Ngarariga Police Station today morning, the incident was reported by the Gitogothi area assistant chief after residents attacked the suspect late at night.
Police officers who rushed to the scene established that a Kikuyu traditional ceremony was underway at the home of Elizabeth Nyambura, where the deceased, identified as George Muiruri Wambui, 40 had been present.
He was reportedly in the company of a minor aged who has a hearing and speech impairment.
At around 10:00 p.m., the minor was reported missing, prompting a search by villagers. She was later found at the suspect’s house, where both were reportedly naked.
The discovery sparked outrage among residents, who descended on the man, assaulting him before setting his two room wooden house ablaze.
He was burned to death inside the house, which was completely destroyed.
The minor was rescued unharmed and rushed to Tigoni Level 4 Hospital for medical attention.
Police processed the scene and moved the remains of the deceased to Tigoni Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The case has been classified as mob injustice, arson, and suspected defilement, and investigations are ongoing under officers at Ngarariga Police Station.
