By Our Correspondent,Bute.

Police in Wajir County have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of defiling a minor in Basakorow sub-location, Wajir North.

Police at Gurar Police Station in their report indicate that the incident was reported yesterday evening by a man from Basakorow who had accompanied his daughter to the station.

He told police that earlier that day at around 3.00pm, the minor had been grazing goats alone when she was confronted by a man known to her, identified as Abdi Shakur, a resident of the same locality.

The suspect allegedly emerged from nearby bushes, threatened the minor with death if she raised alarm, and forcefully overpowered her before committing the offence.

He later warned her not to disclose the incident and fled the scene.

The victim later informed her mother, who, together with the father, escorted her to Gurar Police Station where the matter was formally reported.

She was treated at Gurar Health Center and discharged.

The victim has since been issued with a P3 form for further medical examination at Bute Subcounty Hospital.

Police confirmed that efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing.
