According to a report filed at the Kenya Airports Police Unit the incident occurred at the wee hours of today at Terminal 1A departures central screening.

The passenger, identified as Kasongo Mulumba Gustavo Francisco, aged 42, was en route from Kinshasa to Bujumbura aboard Kenya Airways flight transiting through Nairobi.

Security officers flagged the passenger after discovering a walking stick in his possession that was suspected to be made of ivory.

The item raised immediate concern due to strict international and Kenyan laws regulating the trade and movement of ivory products.

A multi-agency team, including officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), was convened at the scene.

Upon interrogation, the passenger stated that the walking stick was a family heritage inherited from his grandfather and held symbolic value.

Following deliberations, authorities resolved that the Kenya Wildlife Service would confiscate the walking stick for further examination and appropriate handling in line with wildlife conservation laws.
