A confrontation unfolded at Njoro Boys High School in Nakuru County today after a teacher assaulted the school principal during a heated dispute over a transfer request.
According to a police report filed at Njoro Police Station the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. within the school compound.
The altercation involved the school principal John Githaiga, and a teacher Boniface Ondara.
Police say the teacher stormed into the principal’s office while he was in a meeting with two staff members Banice Kogei and Mr. Martim along with guests waiting outside.
The teacher reportedly confronted the principal over claims that his transfer request had been denied and demanded that the principal engage his parents on the matter.
In the ensuing confrontation, Ondara attacked the principal, punching him on the head and chest.
The situation quickly escalated before other teachers and individuals present intervened and restrained the suspect.
The school’s deputy principal, Kinyua, was alerted and directed security personnel to detain the teacher at the school’s gate security room.
He remained in custody until officers from Njoro Police Station arrived and took over the matter.
Education officials, including Sub-County Director of Education Stephen Gachie and Quality Assurance and Standards Officer Mr Ontiri, have been notified of the incident.
Police have launched investigations into the case, which remains under inquiry, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Njoro handling the matter.
No serious injuries were immediately reported, but authorities have condemned the incident, terming it a breach of professional conduct within a learning institution.
Investigations are ongoing.
