Central police OCS arrested over release of 64 protest suspects

Central police OCS Dishen Angoya has been arrested over allegations of abuse of office after reportedly authorizing the release of dozens of suspects who participated in yesterday matatu strike.

According to a police incident report filed at Langata Police Station, Chief Inspector Dishen Angoya was arrested on Monday at around noon by the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Nairobi Region.

Police stated that the officer is accused of improperly conferring a benefit upon himself by allegedly releasing 64 prisoners who had earlier been arrested over public order-related offences on May 18, 2026, without lawful authority.

The report further indicated that the senior officer has since been placed in police custody pending further investigations.

Policebalso noted that the officer complained of high blood pressure following the arrest.

The matter is currently being handled by the Police Unit Investigations (PUI) and the Serious Crime Investigation team from Nairobi North.
