It is easy to blend into a crowd. In John 6, large groups followed Jesus for the miracles and the free bread, but when His teachings became difficult, their true hearts were exposed. Jesus wasn’t fooled by outward appearance or casual proximity. He knew exactly who truly believed and who was just along for the ride, even knowing who would ultimately betray Him.
This is both sobering and deeply comforting. Jesus sees right past our religious routines, our perfect Sunday habits, and our rehearsed prayers straight into our authentic hearts. He doesn’t want casual fans; He desires deeply committed followers who stay when things get tough.
Today, let’s stop trying to manage our spiritual image. Take a moment to honestly examine your heart. Are you following Jesus for what He can give you, or for who He truly is? He already knows the answer. Bring your genuine self to Him today.
